 What is an ERD?

An Entity Relationship Diagram is a graphical representation that depicts relationships among different items within an IT system.

ERD diagrams include the following terms

1. Entities - A definable thing or concept within a system such as a person/role, object, concept, event

2. Attributes - features associated with entities 

3. Relationships - how one entity is related to another 

4. Cardinality ratio - how many instances of one entity is related with another (one-one , one-many)
